A song composed by Séamas Ó Muircheartaigh (c.1880-1927) of Ard na Caithne (Smerwick) in West Kerry who was nicknamed ‘An Spailpín Fánach’ and emigrated to America around 1900. Spending time working in the mines in Butte Montana before settling in San Francisco, Séamas was deeply committed to the Irish language throughout his life.
